<p>Most of the companies, irrespective of their size, have  started to include videos about the company&#8217;s service offerings and  product offerings as part of their marketing efforts. Companies put  these videos in their intranet portal first and get the feedback from  their own employees. After this step, the companies tweak the videos,  based on the feedback received, either by themselves or with the help of  a video production company. After incorporating the changes, they  publish this corporate offering video to their internet portal.<br />
There  are actually many reasons for organizations to use corporate video  presentations. Of all the reasons, two reasons top the list. One among  them is the ability of these corporate video presentations to produce  reproducible training sessions for the employees in the organization  interested in learning a new technology.<br />
Sometimes the organization  will also make it mandatory for all its employees to complete a  particular course by referring to the video presentations. In such  instances, these video training sessions are loaded in the intranet  portal of the company for the employees to refer. The employees can use  it any number of times and complete the course. Also the training  sessions taken by an expert related to a particular technology can also  be recorded and then uploaded in to the company&#8217;s intranet portal.<br />
One  of the major advantages of having a video training session is that the  audience is not dependent on a particular person to come and deliver the  lecture. One can go to the intranet portal and then launch the video  training session as and when they want to take.<br />
Another major reason  for the companies to go for corporate videos is the emergence of video  as a media that helps to increase the sales of the company products and  service offerings. Studies on certain eCommerce portals have come out  with some interesting findings on the positive impact of the video  information regarding the product. When the customer sees the various  features of the product through video presentations, the studies  indicate that there is a greater chance for the customers to get  impressed with the product and place the order through the company&#8217;s  eCommerce portal.<br />
In addition to being used to market the product in  a better manner, they also help the eCommerce portal to be ranked  highly by the various video search engine portals such as YouTube and  Vimeo. Search engines place the links of all these eCommerce portals  which Video demonstrations, in the first page of the search engine  result.</p>

<p>&#8220;How to&#8230;&#8221; are two words that end up in search engines quite  frequently. The Internet is 100 percent information transmission —  someone has something to share, and others have things they want to  gain. The how-to phenomenon exemplifies this dynamic like few other  events can. People no longer have to go out to the store to get a book  on car maintenance or pot roast recipes — they just hop online and grab  the information for free.</p>
<p>Ah, but that&#8217;s not to say there&#8217;s no money in how-tos. How-to celebs  like Kimberly Clayton Blaine and Michelle Phan have made substantial  headway in the world of how-to videos, with their once quiet video sites  gaining major cooperation from organizations like Lancôme and Yahoo! as  a result of their rapidly-growing popularity.</p>
<p>But what exactly makes a good, solid how-to video? What parts need to be  included in a proper series in order to encourage people to keep coming  back for view after view?</p>
<p><strong>Part 1: Choose a Topic People Care About</strong></p>
<p>It might seem like a given, but a lot of marketers seem to forget that  people have emotions and minds of their own, and they can tell when  someone isn&#8217;t giving their all. Someone who is obviously &#8220;phoning in&#8221; a  performance is likely to get dismissed out of hand compared to someone  who obviously is knowledgeable and passionate about their chosen topic.</p>
<p>There are a lot of ways for a presenter to show they care about a topic.  Great how-to artists — and when done well, it truly is an art — like to  diverge from the main discussion to give a very short aside, such as a  recipe specialist sharing an anecdote about mixing up salt and sugar in  an icing recipe. Others might offer tips about how to circumvent  official channels for acquiring supplies and share knowledge about  secondary, less expensive sources. In short, the great ones don&#8217;t just  share the hard details, they also behind-the-scenes information to help  spark their audience&#8217;s interest.</p>
<p><strong>Part 2: Ensure Purity of Purpose</strong></p>
<p>That said, small asides that showcase personal interest in the topic are  good, but the stress must be on &#8220;small&#8221; or short. The average attention  span of most web users is not terrifically long — there&#8217;s so much to  see, do and learn, so a how-to video must capture interest and hold it  without fail for the duration. Thus, make sure that every element  included in the video is absolutely necessary to the message being  conveyed and/or to capturing the audience&#8217;s hearts and minds.</p>
<p>If a small aside illustrates a more personal interest and helps the  viewer connect, great — keep that in. If, on the other hand, it&#8217;s just  kind of funny, nix it. Focus on the details and make sure that  everything in the video is bent to the task of fulfilling the how-to  process. Always remember that the viewer is present for a reason: to  learn what information is available.</p>
<p><strong>Part 3: Allow for Style</strong></p>
<p>Each person has his or her own style, without question. Style is a  complicated thing: It&#8217;s composed of accent, pattern of speaking,  physical mannerisms, personal attire and more. Does the presenter  actually show up in the video, or does the video conceal his or her  face? Is the video shot in real time, edited for sectional content or  does it use a stop-motion process so that the presenter is never visible  throughout?</p>
<p>No one style is appropriate to every venue, and styles can be stretched  to odd degrees. One might find it odd to adopt an exceptionally formal  tone when presenting a how-to on baked beans and cornbread. On the other  hand, this kind of style might be exaggerated for comedic effect, and  this human element of irony might keep the viewers coming back. In  short, don&#8217;t be afraid to experiment with a few different styles,  possibly under alternative accounts, until finding one that works.</p>
<p><strong>Step 4: Take the Time Needed; No More and No Less</strong></p>
<p>YouTube is a popular venue for video how-tos, for obvious reasons. The  default length for most videos is 10 minutes, which provides a  reasonable benchmark for simpler how-to guides. It also has become a  benchmark for video tolerance in general simply because of the sheer  number of users growing accustomed to videos based around this length.  That said, YouTube recently increased its maximum video length to 15  minutes, so be sure to keep an eye on viewers&#8217; habits.</p>
<p>Indeed, the issue of time can be a bit tricky for a how-to. Ideally,  unless the procedure is a particularly long one, the how-to should be  kept to a single video. This may mean taking multiple shoots to see how  various treatment lengths work for the project. On the other hand, don&#8217;t  be afraid to let the video expand to several &#8220;episodes&#8221; if the how-to  in question is large enough. Something as complicated and involved as  building a backyard deck can reasonably be expected to require several  videos to encompass.</p>
<p><strong>Step 5: Cross Promote</strong></p>
<p>The currency of the web is reputation. If people think poorly of a site,  it gets poor views. Having a good attitude and a cooperative spirit is  often the best way to get a good promotion off the ground, and this  includes how-to videos.</p>
<p>For example, a site might consider promoting a fellow though  unaffiliated how-to expert if their videos cover a gap in the site&#8217;s own  knowledge. A cooking site whose patrons ask about a type of cooking  none of the site&#8217;s staff specialize in could refer them to a colleague  who just happens to know what he&#8217;s talking about. Additionally, one  might promote webzines and non-how-to sites that cover similar topics.</p>

<p>Video provides us with the capacity to correspond with others in a  manner that builds trust and a personal association. <p>The following is a list of ideas about making video part of your  marketing strategy.</p>
<p>?Make sure that you embed your video on your blog because it is or at  least it should be the center of your social media advertising so by  placing your video there where people can find it and subsequently find  out more about you can only be a positive thing.</p>
<p>?Aim to grab the attention of your viewers within the first 15-20  seconds of your video -make sure that you enforce the benefit people  will receive as they view your video. It is important to note that if  you fail to grab your viewer&#8217;s attention within this time they are going  to get bored and go elsewhere.</p>
<p>?Always be yourself and don&#8217;t try to make yourself out to be someone  you&#8217;re not. If you are fun and outgoing be fun and outgoing on the  video. If you are more reserved and serious then that is how you need to  present yourself in front of the camera. Trying to be someone you are  not will not gain you the trust of other people &#8211; it is not that  difficult to tell when someone is faking.</p>
<p>?Write up a rough draft of what it is you plan to say rather than  reading straight from a script &#8211; you want to sound natural and not  robotic. Through drafting up an outline of bullet points you will not  stray from what your main point is and you will also come across a more  natural speaker.</p>
<p>?Ensure that you create a catchy title, preferably incorporating your  main keyword just as you would do in any other form of marketing and at  the same time you aim to grab people&#8217;s attention. At the very least you  should have basic copy writing skills in order to help you to create a  catchy heading.</p>
<p>?Maintain eye contact with the camera, in the same way that you would if  you were talking to someone face to face. It is a known form of body  language that not maintaining eye contact makes you appear to be  untrusting. Of course this is something that will require a degree of  practise but you will find that over time you will become more confident  and therefore better at it.</p>
<p>?At the end of your video, make sure that you have a clear call to  action this means that you tell your viewers what action you would like  them to take once the video is finished. You might ask them to leave a  comment or feedback or you may want them to join your opt-in list to  receive a freebie.</p>
<p>?When you edit your video make sure you have means of contacting you as  the final credit. This is easy to do with any editing programme you  choose but it is extremely important.</p>
<p>?Obtain a microphone, they are usually not that expensive and improve  your audio. If you have one, you could easily start out with your  webcam; just make sure you have a nice professional background and light  yourself well.</p>
<p>?Market your video and upload it to YouTube first. If you really want to  go that bit further you can use Traffic Geyser which is a paid  programme but it will upload your videos to more than forty video  hosting sites. You could alternatively choose to use a service called  TubeMogul which is free but this uploads to less sites, about 12-15.  Whichever way you choose, make sure you get yourself out there.</p>

<p>If you&#8217;re still not sure what a podcast is don&#8217;t feel bad. You are one of millions of intelligent, informed people who are missing this piece of the New Media puzzle</p>
<p>Having excused you, now permit me to chastise you. All businesspeople should know what a podcast is, especially considering there are tens of thousands of them and their legions of listeners are growing. Podcasting can also be very beneficial to your company or you as a business professional.</p>
<p>But let&#8217;s not get ahead of ourselves. First, a few basics.</p>
<p>Podcasts are audio files, mostly composed of people talking and often including music and sound effects. They can be downloaded and listened to on a computer, or transferred to your iPod (hence the &#8220;pod&#8221;-cast name) or other MP3 player. The vast majority of podcasts are free of charge through iTunes, Podcast Alley and other outlets.</p>
<p>To give you some idea, I subscribe to more than a dozen podcasts that range from audio versions of TV shows such as Meet the Press and Face the Nation to Nation Public Radio interview programs Fresh Air and the Diane Rehm Show, to academic and business programming like the Harvard Business IdeaCast, McKinsey Quarterly Podcast and The Economist magazine.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s great stuff that will feed your head and keep you atop modern day events.</p>
<p>Podcasts are convenient because they can be listened to while driving, pumping iron at the gym, hiking, zipping to the office on the train, sitting on your sofa or dozing in bed at night (one of my favorite ways to enter the Land of Nod). It is this kind of flexibility that helps make podcasts so popular.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s one of the big advantages audio podcasts have over video &#8211; they require one rather than two senses, meaning they don&#8217;t require your undivided attention. You can listen to audio while participating in any number of activities. It&#8217;s probably not a good idea to watch a video while you&#8217;re riding a horse or trying to stay balanced on a treadmill.</p>
<p>All one need do is check out some of the organizations that podcast to realize its value and implications. There&#8217;s the legendary consulting firm of McKinsey &amp; Co, accounting giant PricewaterhouseCoopers and academic icon Harvard Business School. These are sophisticated organizations that don&#8217;t waste time on useless activities. Why do these organizations podcast?</p>
<p>Here are seven good reasons.</p>
<p>DISPLAY EXPERTISE. When McKinsey &amp; Co. conducted its annual global survey of business spending on Web 2.0 technologies, it not only released a written report, it produced a podcast consisting of an interview with one of the research report&#8217;s authors. Another example is a podcast titled Connecting Climate Change and Economic Recovery, featuring an interview with economist Nicholas Stern. People seek out expertise. Demonstrate it and you will win customers and respect.</p>
<p>DISPLAY LEADERSHIP. Harvard Business School does exactly that with its IdeaCast. The Harvard Business IdeaCast has tackled subjects bearing the following headlines:</p>
<p>&gt;&gt; Use right incentives for Gen Y, Gen X &gt;&gt; Winning in a turbulent economy &gt;&gt; Redesigning health care &gt;&gt; When high performers struggle &gt;&gt; Is executive pay broken? &gt;&gt; The 5 leadership essentials &gt;&gt; Being a good boss in a bad economy</p>
<p>EDUCATE. The Britain-based podcast The Naked Scientists uses British humor and interesting topics to teach people about scientific and technological breakthroughs. It&#8217;s an effective and entertaining approach. Some recent subjects were:</p>
<p>&gt;&gt; Where do lost socks go? &gt;&gt; The diseased brain &gt;&gt; High altitude adventures &gt;&gt; Why does water expand when it freezes? &gt;&gt; Catching up with cancer research &gt;&gt; Building bodies and mending broken hearts &gt;&gt; Can you run faster on the moon?</p>
<p>PROVIDE VALUE. Grammar Girl and her brief 10-minute podcasts have become widely popular in part from publicity she has received in magazines such as Business Week. But she has sustained that audience by giving them valuable information pertaining to the proper use of grammar. She makes it fun and easy to learn proper English skills. And who doesn&#8217;t want to sound like they didn&#8217;t fall asleep in English class?</p>
<p>BRAND YOUR COMPANY. If you&#8217;re British Petroleum and you&#8217;re trying to position yourself as a forward-thinking company, wouldn&#8217;t producing podcasts about clean and sustainable forms of energy help immensely to burnish your image as a company operating in future tense? Podcast about topics that core to the company&#8217;s brand.</p>
<p>BRAND YOURSELF. If you&#8217;re the brilliant management consultant or life coach you claim to be, prove it with a weekly or monthly podcast with a snappy title. Consider how much credence would be lent to your reputation by podcasts that offer terrific advice and success stories about your own clients? Demonstrate your ability and your podcasts become testimonials.</p>
<p>CONNECT WITH KEY PLAYERS. Imagine you&#8217;re a regional bank that wants to reach out to key players in your market. Rather than your standard sales letter or cold call, what if you invited your target to be featured on the bank&#8217;s CEO Spotlight podcast? Now the CEO can share his or her wisdom and is likely to be flattered by the invitation. You get a face-to-face interview out of the deal and the start of a personal relationship that could be parlayed into a client relationship. The caveat, of course, is that no one will be interested in subscribing to your podcast unless you provide interesting and educational content. So don&#8217;t make the mistake of using it strictly as a relationship building tool. That will bore or offend people and cost you listeners.</p>

<p>1) Use a powerful and compelling title. Just like article, your videos must have a great descriptive title and include keywords at the top,middle and end of the paragraph. <p>I&#8217;ll admit, I&#8217;m not up on all the latest gadgets and how they                  really work. But now I&#8217;m subscribing to free &#8220;podcasts&#8221; and soaking up                  all kinds of new information.</p>
<p>If                  you already listen to podcasts or broadcast your own, you                  probably won&#8217;t learn much from today&#8217;s gazette. But if you&#8217;re like me &#8212; sort                  of slow to adopt new technology, this issue of the gazette will put you                  &#8220;in the loop.&#8221; Who knows, you may even start your own podcast                  after reading this.</p>

<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> It took me a few hours of reading to                  figure it all out, but I think I have it now. First of all, you                  do not need a pond, or even a fishing pole for podcasting. I&#8217;ll                  explain what you do need in a minute, but first let me explain                  what podcasting is&#8230;</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> When using the Internet, do you                  simply visit different sites in order to get the information you                  want? If so, you&#8217;re a lot like me.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> But what if that data came to you                  instead, without the need to visit the site that provides it?                  Wouldn&#8217;t that save you a lot of time surfing the web? </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> Well, that&#8217;s sort of what podcasting                  is all about &#8212; the scenario where you receive the data directly                  from the originator, rather than visit the website to get the                  data.</span></p>
<p><img src="http://www.bizweb2000.com/MCj04059560000%5B1%5D.gif" border="0" alt="" hspace="11" vspace="11" width="91" height="90" align="left" />So,                  what is a podcast? Think of the word &#8220;broadcast&#8221;. What do you picture? Perhaps, you see someone                  listening to the news on a radio. Or you might see someone                  watching a baseball game on TV. You may even see a PC on a                  network transmitting packets of information.</p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> So, broadcasting is the process of                  sending out information to an audience. These audiences, with                  the right equipment, will be able to receive and decode the                  signals being transmitted. There is one source and, normally, many recipients.</span></p>
<p>Similarly, with podcasting, digital files are                  being sent out from a server to people who subscribe to them.                  Although it is a form of file-sharing over the Internet (like                  direct downloading or streaming), podcasting is distinguished by                  its ability to be syndicated, subscribed to, and downloaded                  automatically when there&#8217;s new data added. This is done using                  an aggregator or feed reader, such as RSS or Atom, that can read                  feed formats.</p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> Don&#8217;t worry if those technical                  terms scare you, it&#8217;s really pretty simple as you&#8217;ll see                  below&#8230;</span></p>

<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> <strong><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;">How Do You Listen To Podcasts?</span></strong></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> First you need one of those                  gadgets&#8230; such as a iPod or a Microsoft Zune.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> When you connect your gadget to your                  computer a podcatching client will load. This is software that                  makes full use of the features of the podcasts&#8217; syndication.                  Examples of these podcatching clients are Apple&#8217;s iTunes,                  Microsoft&#8217;s Zune Marketplace, Juice, and Podget.</span></p>
<p>Via your podcatching client, programs, or episodes, received                  from podcasters can be played on the computer or transferred to                  a portable media player, such as the iPod. You can then take the                  iPod anywhere you want and all your favorite podcasts are there                  for your listening pleasure.</p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> (If you&#8217;re curious where the word &#8220;podcast&#8221;                  came from, I found two explanations of the etymology of the                  word, &#8220;podcasting.&#8221; One explanation is that it is a combination                  of the words &#8220;iPod&#8221; and &#8220;broadcasting&#8221;. The other explanation is                  that the root of the word comes from the acronym for &#8220;personal                  on demand,&#8221; which would be pod. Personal on demand broadcasting                  becomes podcasting.).</span></p>
<p>So what types of programs are available via podcasts? Just about                  anything you can think of. And if you have the right gadget, you                  can even get video podcasts.</p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> Some examples of content available                  include music, audio books, school lessons,                  conference meetings, public safety messages and more. Most of                  the content is free, though you&#8217;ll also find content with paid                  subscription fees.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> This is a little trickier than                  simply listening to podcasts.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> The first thing you need is a domain                  name. This will provide your subscribers the location where they                  can get your media files. Try to select a name that is easy to                  remember and tells the type of podcast you are publishing. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> Next you will need is web host.                  There are several companies that you can go to when looking for                  a web host, just be sure to consider getting lots of disk space                  since you will be storing a large amount of media files. For                  example, a 2-minute mp3 file may be 2 MB in size. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> Also consider the amount of                  bandwidth the company is offering. This is the amount of data                  that can be transferred to and from your host every month. Since                  you will have large data files, having just a few subscribers                  can use up all your bandwidth in a matter of days. 100 GB                  of bandwidth may be enough, but be sure to increase this once                  you get a lot of subscribers.</span></p>
<p>Once you have your website setup, download a program called                  dircaster at                  <a href="http://www.dircaster.org/" style="font-family: Arial; color: #0000ff; font-weight: 400;"  target="_blank"> <span style="font-size: small;">dircaster.org</span></a>. This is an opensource podcasting                  script that lets you start podcasting from your site. Configure                  this program to reflect the details of your domain then upload                  it to your site.</p>
<p><img src="http://www.bizweb2000.com/MCj03182360000%5B1%5D.gif" border="0" alt="" width="156" height="191" align="left" />The                  next step is to record the media file, called an episode, that                  you will podcast. One software that you can use is                  <a href="http://audacity.sourceforge.net/" style="color: #0000ff; font-family: Arial; font-weight: 400;"  target="_blank"> <span style="font-size: small;">Audacity</span></a>. This is a free, open source                  software to record and edit sounds.</p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> Record your episode from a                  microphone, a CD, the computer&#8217;s sound card, or even a VOIP                  conversation. Edit the file, such as mixing tracks (voice and                  music), cut segments, or add segments. You also should be adding                  tags and descriptions on your episode.</span></p>
<p>Upload this media file in the same directory as the                  dircaster.php. The dircaster will then generate a RSS feed                  telling your subscribers about the new file that they can                  download.</p>
<p>As you can see, creating a podcast can be pretty simple and inexpensive if                  you&#8217;re willing to go through a small learning curve. The                  software needed is free and if you have something to share,                  podcasting is a great way to provide your information to the                  Internet.</p>

<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> <strong> <span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;">So that you can see how podcasting                  can be used in business, here&#8217;s an example of how a local ski                  area used podcasts to promote their business&#8230;</span></strong></span></p>

<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;"> <img src="http://www.bizweb2000.com/MCj03317030000%5B1%5D.gif" border="0" alt="" width="190" height="179" align="right" />The                  target market for a typical ski resort includes young                  professionals in their 20s and 30s, with an adventure-loving                  attitude to recreation, and plenty of disposable income. That&#8217;s right on target for the core                  market that buys iPods and other high-tech gadgets.</span></p>
<p>Marketing Sherpa reports that New England ski area Killington                  Ski Resorts recently tapped into this useful convergence of                  market niches to create a Podcast-driven marketing campaign.</p>
<p>The challenge was to reach the ideal demographic of young urban                  professionals, who are typically hard to get at through                  traditional ski industry marketing media such as radio, TV and                  magazines. Their lives are cluttered with a blizzard of                  conflicting media, their attention fragmented and hard to hold.</p>
<p>Killington Resorts communications manager Tom Horrocks                  recognized that one unifying factor of this demographic is their                  almost cultish love of iPods and portable digital audio. He                  decided that Podcasts would be an ideal way to connect with them                  on their own terms.</p>
<p><strong>Here&#8217;s how he put the campaign together: </strong></p>
<p>1) Bought software and digital microphones that his team could                  use right in the office to create Podcasts.</p>
<p>2) Hired a &#8220;snow reporter / media writer&#8221; to act as a personable                  and enthusiastic character, to become identified as the Podcast                  voice of the resort.</p>
<p>3) Developed and produced 3 separate Podcasts: a 3-minute &#8220;Snowcast&#8221;                  of daily weather and snow condition reports; a 12-minute weekly                  &#8220;Driftcast&#8221; that delivered interviews, tips and stories from the                  mountain; and a 3-hour weekly music production, more like and FM                  radio segment, with music appealing to the target demographic.</p>
<p>4) Delivered the Podcasts regularly, on schedule, through                  popular distribution services including Apple&#8217;s iTunes online                  music service, Podcast Alley, and Yahoo!, as well as through the                  Resorts&#8217; own Web site.</p>
<p><strong>The results were impressive.</strong> Over a period of 2 months at the                  beginning of 2006, the Podcasts were downloaded nearly 30,000                  times. The downside of Podcast marketing is that it is hard to                  track results. Once the audio is downloaded, there&#8217;s no built-in                  way to measure how the listener responds or takes action.</p>
<p>However, Tom Horrocks is sure the Podcasts delivered a good                  return on investment. He credits the campaign&#8217;s success to the                  flair of the resort&#8217;s Podcast personality, known as Anna of the                  Mountain. &#8220;She epitomizes Killington: young, passionate, crazy                  about skiing.&#8221;</p>

<div>Have you ever thought about making and posting an online video? If so, then I ask&#8230;&#8221;What&#8217;s stopping you?&#8221;</p>
<p>Maybe it&#8217;s a profound fear of looking like an idiot.</p>
<p>Understandable. But I can tell you from experience, you&#8217;re  always going to be far more critical than anyone else. So you  just have to get over it.</p>
<p>When I made my first video I thought I was having a bit of a  bad hair day. But I posted it anyway. Then lo and behold a  friend spontaneously posted a compliment about my hair when she  saw the video. Go figure.</p>
<p>Now, if you&#8217;re willing to make a little bit of a fool of  yourself, you can do like Lou Bortone, The Online Video Guy.  His videos are a hoot with crazy costumes and fun  personalities. I love watching them and know his stuff has gone  viral (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.loutube.com/" >http://www.loutube.com</a>).</p>
<p>But you don&#8217;t have to do anything crazy to make an effective  video. Just offer valuable information in an upbeat manner. And  be authentic. People will love it.</p>
<p>Of course, maybe you&#8217;re stuck because you don&#8217;t know HOW to  actually record, edit, format and upload video to the Web.</p>
<p>Problem solved!</p>
<p>Below are exactly the steps I take. I&#8217;m not an online video  expert by any means. But I&#8217;ve had people who saw my videos get  in touch because that got them interested in hiring me. You can  do the same.</p>
<p>So, here&#8217;s how to record, edit and post a video online in 9  simple steps&#8230;</p>
<p>1) Buy a Flip video camera. They cost about $125 (you don&#8217;t  need the fanciest one) and are well worth it-even if you  already own a traditional mini-dv recorder. Some people  recommend getting a Web cam instead. I know they&#8217;re  cheaper but they don&#8217;t come with all the features of the Flip  you&#8217;re gonna need to do this. Plus, you can&#8217;t take a Web cam  with you&#8230;And that&#8217;s half the fun.</p>
<p>2) Set up an account at either <a href="http://YouTube.com"  title="http://YouTube.com" class="autohyperlink" target="_blank">YouTube.com</a> or <a href="http://MySpace.com"  title="http://MySpace.com" class="autohyperlink" target="_blank">MySpace.com</a>. Or both.</p>
<p>3) Script and/or outline your video and practice it a couple  times. Shorter is better. I shoot for between 30 seconds and 3  minutes. Longer than that and you gotta be talking about  something really interesting or you&#8217;ll lose people. Visual aids  are good if you want to hold people&#8217;s attention for longer  chunks of time.</p>
<p>4) Spend a few minutes making a couple test videos then record  the real thing. I often simply hold my arm out and aim the  camera back at my face to record my videos. I&#8217;ve also put it on  a little tripod and strapped it to a tree. You should note that  while they say it&#8217;s got a 12 ft range, I&#8217;ve found 6 ft or less  is optimal for decent sound.</p>
<p>5) Once you&#8217;ve got a video you like, plug your Flip into your  computer USB port and wait for the software to auto load. Now  you can edit and save your video. And it&#8217;s dead easy. If you go  into &#8220;create a movie&#8221; you can even add basic opener and closer  slides that fade in and out.</p>
<p>6) Once it&#8217;s all ready to go, just choose to share your video  online and the software will give you a choice of posting it on  YouTube, MySpace or prepping it for email. Make your pick and  follow the prompts. Once it&#8217;s done just click the link  to &#8220;return to browser&#8221; and you&#8217;ll go directly to the login page  of that site.</p>
<p>7) Log in to your account and choose to edit your video. Here  you need to add important bits like title, description and  keywords. Be sure to include your Website URL at the start of  your description with <a target="_blank" href="http:///" >http://</a> before the www. Change any other  settings you&#8217;d like while you&#8217;re there as well. I typically  make comments allowed only with approval but always allow  public sharing.</p>

I learned about  this from Lou Bortone. This little service will repost your  video on tons of other sites automatically. Way cool!</p>
<p>9) Let everyone you know, know. Email about it. Post it-or a  link to it-on your Website and blog. Twitter about it. Stick it  on your facebook page&#8230;You get the idea.</p>
<p>I&#8217;ll admit, getting your first video out there can feel a  little scary. But I promise once you do one, you&#8217;ll see how  easy it really is and start having fun.</p></div>

Traditionally, newspaper and radio advertising and magazine reviews have formed the platform by which to do this. However, in the onslaught of the iPod generation, video reviews are becoming a favoured way to get manufacturers messages across and actually demonstrate the latest products on offer. With every person between the ages of five and eighty five glued to a media player or computer, it makes sense to use this technology to reach the target market and advertise the full potential of a product.</p>
<p>The majority of people are choosing to do their shopping online, ditching the hustle and bustle of the high street for a finger walk across a keyboard. The only reason consumers are popping into town is to have a look at what is available to help them make the right online purchase. In light of this, some clever folks have decided that being able to offer video reviews of products online will encourage more people to make a purchase while surfing the net.</p>
<p>If you are choosing to shop online, it makes sense to try out different products online, especially if you are considering investing in a fair bit of cash, and the format of a video review works well for technologies that have multiple functions such as mobile phones and media players. Take the latest offering from Toshiba for example, the TG01. This is a mobile phone/media player hybrid that has more functions than the Fox and Pheasant. Looking at an ad in a glossy mag and reading the spec list wouldn&#8217;t be good enough to make you purchase it instantly, and a television ad would simply be too short to show all the things it can do. The alternative before video reviews would be going into town, finding a shop that stocks it, waiting in a queue for an hour before being offered an uncharged handset to hold.</p>
<p>Thanks to the new way of advertising, we can see everything this product does, how the menu system works, what the display looks like, how to answer a call and create a text message. This almost works like a mini manual and could well be the way forward for setting up gadgets and gizmo&#8217;s in the future. Technology is not as simple as it used to be, and setting up a TV, telephone or MP3 player practically requires a degree in astrophysics. Having a video review to guide a user through the applications and set ups would actually improve sales.</p>
<p>In a recent survey, it was discovered that up to sixty five per cent of mobile phone users didn&#8217;t use applications other than text, call and cameras on their phones because the set up was too complicated and because of this would not buy another smart phone to avoid wasting money. Through video reviews, a consumer can be taken through the set ups step by step. Unlike regular advertising, which has to be engaging to entice the consumer to invest in the product, video reviews serve a purpose. They function as an info-mercial.</p>
<p>Video reviews are aimed at people who are on the point of purchase and want to know more about a product, so expensive advertising tricks are not necessary. The people that are using these reviews are also an already targeted market, so the sales pitch can be toned down and the focus can be on product information. So rather than being a mode of advertising, the reviews offer a service that is informative, useful and could help boost the sales of new technology.</p>
