by Overcome Everything Inc. – Tommy Knox

Hi there, all you aspiring Internet Email Marketing Millionaires!

I have a serious matter to discuss with you today if you are using or intend to use email marketing in your business. The CAN-SPAM Act, a law that sets the rules for commercial email, can cause major headaches for you if you fail to maintain strict compliance with the rules and regs this law sets forth. (Think “stabbed-in-the-eyeball-with-acid-dipped-scissors” kind of headaches.)

The CAN-SPAM Act establishes specific requirements for commercial messages, gives your email recipients the right to have you stop emailing them, and spells out tough penalties for violations.

“Tough penalties you say? How tough?” How’s about up to $16,000.00 per email – is that deterrent enough for you? How about some jail time to go with it?

Imagine this scenario: You have started an email marketing business and done fairly well over the past couple of years. You’ve launched several new product campaigns, sold thousands of units, and built up quite a sizeable list of customers and prospects in your email marketing base. Then one day, someone to whom you’ve sent an email gets upset with you for whatever reason, maybe they got a damaged product or couldn’t get a human to answer your support line or they got fired from their day job and suddenly anyone who appears slightly successful (you) is a target of their ire. They pick up the phone and dial up the Federal Trade Commission’s SPAM hotline or fire off a complaint letter about your “barrage of emails”, and presto – you and your company are the subjects of a full-blown FTC investigation and/or prosecution.

“How can I avoid this?” Well, by making sure you’re in compliance with the SPAM laws. Here’s a quick list of the most relevant ones:

1. You can’t use false or misleading header information. Your From, To, Reply-To, and routing information, including your domain name and email address, must be accurate and identify you or your business as the one who initiated the message.

2. Don’t use deceptive subject lines. The subject line must accurately reflect the content of the message.

3. Identify the message as an email marketing ad. The law gives you a lot of leeway in how to do this, but you must disclose that you’re trying to sell something.

4.Tell recipients where you’re located. Your message must include your valid physical mailing address; it can be a PO box or a street address.

5. Here’s a biggie: Tell recipients how to opt out of receiving future email marketing offers from you. Your message must include a clear explanation of how the recipient can opt out of getting email from you in the future. Craft the notice in a way that’s easy for an ordinary person to recognize, read, and understand. Then, you must honor opt-out requests within 10 business days. Once people have told you they don’t want to receive more messages from you, you can’t sell or transfer their email addresses, even in the form of a mailing list.

6. Monitor what others are doing on your behalf. The law makes clear that even if you hire another company to handle your email marketing, you can’t contract away your legal responsibility to comply with the law. Both your company and the company that actually sends the message may be held legally responsible.

Hey wait, there’s the key! A major part of a successful email marketing business includes an email autoresponder service. That is, for a monthly fee, you subscribe to a service that handles all of your emails. Choosing the right service would include one that guarantees full compliance with the ant-spam laws, right? Right!

Video provides us with the capacity to correspond with others in a manner that builds trust and a personal association. Moreover when you put a video online it is supposed to be there functioning round the clock for you and it is also economical and simple to do. Basically, video has many attributes to like.

The following is a list of ideas about making video part of your marketing strategy.

?Make sure that you embed your video on your blog because it is or at least it should be the center of your social media advertising so by placing your video there where people can find it and subsequently find out more about you can only be a positive thing.

?Aim to grab the attention of your viewers within the first 15-20 seconds of your video -make sure that you enforce the benefit people will receive as they view your video. It is important to note that if you fail to grab your viewer’s attention within this time they are going to get bored and go elsewhere.

?Always be yourself and don’t try to make yourself out to be someone you’re not. If you are fun and outgoing be fun and outgoing on the video. If you are more reserved and serious then that is how you need to present yourself in front of the camera. Trying to be someone you are not will not gain you the trust of other people – it is not that difficult to tell when someone is faking.

?Write up a rough draft of what it is you plan to say rather than reading straight from a script – you want to sound natural and not robotic. Through drafting up an outline of bullet points you will not stray from what your main point is and you will also come across a more natural speaker.

?Ensure that you create a catchy title, preferably incorporating your main keyword just as you would do in any other form of marketing and at the same time you aim to grab people’s attention. At the very least you should have basic copy writing skills in order to help you to create a catchy heading.

?Maintain eye contact with the camera, in the same way that you would if you were talking to someone face to face. It is a known form of body language that not maintaining eye contact makes you appear to be untrusting. Of course this is something that will require a degree of practise but you will find that over time you will become more confident and therefore better at it.

?At the end of your video, make sure that you have a clear call to action this means that you tell your viewers what action you would like them to take once the video is finished. You might ask them to leave a comment or feedback or you may want them to join your opt-in list to receive a freebie.

?When you edit your video make sure you have means of contacting you as the final credit. This is easy to do with any editing programme you choose but it is extremely important.

?Obtain a microphone, they are usually not that expensive and improve your audio. If you have one, you could easily start out with your webcam; just make sure you have a nice professional background and light yourself well.

?Market your video and upload it to YouTube first. If you really want to go that bit further you can use Traffic Geyser which is a paid programme but it will upload your videos to more than forty video hosting sites. You could alternatively choose to use a service called TubeMogul which is free but this uploads to less sites, about 12-15. Whichever way you choose, make sure you get yourself out there.

Email marketing is one tool that an increasing number of businesses have latched onto within the past couple years as it is an amazing opportunity to double or even triple profits. If you have decided that this method of marketing to your customers is a strategy you’d like to tackle, plenty of resources are out there to help you get started. However, it can be difficult distinguishing among the many different email marketing companies. Here are several characteristics of a reputable email marketing service.Building the Opt-In Permission-Based Mailing List

A crucial part of email marketing is having easy-to-use contact list management features. First and foremost, an email marketing service should allow you to be able to important your existing mailing addresses from a file on your computer. This is often the preferred method when adding a lot of contacts because manually entering your existing contacts email address one-by-one is more time consuming and leaves lots of room for errors to occur.

Second, one of the characteristics of list management that an email marketing provider should contain is a feature that allows your list to be segmented into multiple groups. As you build your email list, you’ll see why the segmentation is important. Remember, not each contact is the same and having different segments lets you treat them differently.

A third feature that your provider should have is the easy-integration of a sign-up box on your website. Being able to use a sign-up box from your email marketing service is perhaps the most important feature you should be looking for. A sign-up box that’s strategically placed on your site acts as an automatic marketing tool that works on autopilot adding subscribers as soon as they enter their email address.

Sending Emails

An automatic email service should offer a variety of options when it comes to sending out your emails to subscribers. There should be pre-designed HTML templates, image galleries that you can use if you want to include images, and there should also be the option to customize your own design. In addition, there should be guide points along the way and systematic instructions to help if you get lost. An intuitive, user-friendly, and easy-to-use interface is what you ultimately need in an ideal email marketing service.

Tracking Tools

An important part of the marketing process is tracking your efforts. In order to know the success of your efforts, you need to know what your subscribers do with the information contained within those emails. A reputable email marketing provider should contain such data like how many emails were opened, which links your prospects clicked on the most, and how many emails bounced because of invalid or full email addresses. In addition, important subscriber statistics that you should have access to include what your email-list growth rate it as well as how many subscribers have been added and removed. Ideally these reports will be updated in real-time so that you don’t have to wait to gauge your success.

All of these issues are important to look out for when attempting to choose an email marketing service. The ability to customize emails, easily maintain your list, and have data readily available at your fingertips are all features that will help you succeed at the highest level with your email marketing efforts.

To grow your business in today’s online-dominated environment you’ll need an amazing eNewsletter. Creating a monthly eNewsletter is easy with the plethora of online email marketing companies offering low-cost services. The more difficult part of effective email marketing-once you’ve crafted a catchy newsletter, of course-is building your list. Here are easy steps you can take to make sure your email marketing list is maximized for the most open clicks:

* Make it easy for readers to sign up for your email marketing campaigns. Don’t request too much information-the more you ask for, the fewer people will likely sign up. Just ask for their name and email address.

* Make sure your eNewsletter subscription form is easy to find. If it makes sense to add this to every page of your website without creating clutter, feel free to do so. You can even add a form at the end of popular articles, in addition to having one at the top of the page.

* Utilize social media. Integrate your sign-up forms with your social networks.

* Create an archive so that potential subscribers can see past eNewsletters and are able to decide if they want to sign up.

* Reward your subscribers. You can offer an opt-in bonus for those who sign up for your emails, but you can also reward those who respond in some way-such as answering poll or survey questions or providing testimonials. Appreciated subscribers will want to stick with you-and your email marketing campaigns

* State your Privacy Policy. No one will want to subscribe to your eNewsletter if they think their personal information will be published, so let them know by providing a policy page that clearly outlines you won’t share their information with others.

* Blog often. This helps to build a community with prospects and potential clients, along with complementing your email marketing strategies. You can also post comments on others’ blogs with links back to your site.

* The No. 1 way to build a larger email marketing list is through publishing useful content. No one is going to want to sign up for your eNewsletters if you don’t provide them with unique and worthwhile content. Don’t send out newsletters too often, and make sure your content is worth reading.
